| I am looking at taking a trip down to Ft. Myers to visit my cousin and to do some snook fishing and possibly going offshore. He has all the offshore equipment we need but not a lot of light tackle stuff. So when I go I will probably be taking 2 rods with me and some tackle. How and are you allowed to pack that on a plane? Since I will be only going for 4 days I am going to fly rather than spend the money on gas to get down there and back. Plus I wont be near as tired after my trip. Any of you that have traveled with your rods and reels please any help would be greatly appreciated. Jason

| Depending on the airlines, and depending on the rod length, you can carry them on as carry on items. What Airline you flying?? You can always ship via UPS if need be.

| I just flew up to Alaska back in August and brought a bunch of fishing poles with me. I will tell you right now you are much better off fedexing them down there prior to your trip and fedexing them back home. The airlines are all about tacking on extra b.s. fees. Well I had my fishing rods in a Plano rod tube which I've flown with a number of times before. Evidently these are now considered oversized items. Delta charged me $225 extra to the rod tube being an oversized item. I almost came unglued on the poor girl behind the counter. Northwest & Era only charged me $25 each for them being an oversized item. Cost me $275 to bring those fishing poles up there. Ouch!

Tuna Man (10/7/2008) You can always ship via UPS if need be.The way airlines are charging for baggage now this is worth looking into.

Buy some cheep ones when you get there and leave them so there the next time you go!!! or buy a couple telescopic rods and have them in your luggage....my bait rod is a telescopic rod that I use on panama city pier that they charge for extra rods(fits real nice in the cooler)and I've caught alot of fish with it with no problem.....for light tackle
