My wife and son and I got off to a late start Saturday because of domestic obligations like cleaning house and cutting grass.  We put in at Navy Point at 4:00pm. We went around the pass and looked for cobia near the beach going east  just for fun.  We didn't see any but decided to anchor off on the south side of the second sand bar and try our luck for spanish, king or a cruising cobia.  No luck and we decided to leave after getting rocked around by the breakers on anchor after about an hour.  We packed up and headed to the jetties by Fort Pickens, the current was flowing really good on an outgoing tide at 5:30pm, but we had no live bait.  After an hour we decided to go to 3 mile bridge.  We anchored up at about 7pm and fished for another hour with no action.  My wife was ready to go at 8pm.  I told her that I was just getting started. I rigged up 4 rods with 4" gulp new penny shrimp.  At 8:30 the drag went off on my 5 y/o sons rod and I helped him reel in a big gafftopsail catfish.  Well at least we didn't get skunked.  I thought that I might have at least bought another 1/2 hour of fishing from my wife. She was still a little sea sick from anchoring off the beach in the shallows looking for cobia.  A few minutes later my sons rod got another hit and he reeled in a white trout all by himself. My son was all fired up and I'm thinking 1/2 hr more time.  Over the next 1 hr we caught 5 or 6 nice bull reds in nice intervals.  All the reds were 28" to 30" and caught on the gulp shrimp.  All fish were released in good condition.  I've been trying to catch the bull reds since I got the boat last June.  This was the second trip to the 3 mile bridge after dark.  It was such a nice night and I could have stayed out all night long, but my son was tired and I knew my wife was ready 4 hrs ago, so I packed it up and did slow cruise back over to Navy Point. The boat was on the trailer at 10:40pm. Here is a few pictures.

My son is going to be a great fisherman. I record alot of the fishing programs on the DVR and he likes to sit and watch alot of them with me.  On Saturday he was pointing out areas that looked good to fish from some of the areas that he remembered seeing on TV. I was going to scrap the fishing trip on saturday since we got off to such a late start, but my son begged me to go fishing. What better inspiration do you need than that!!!

Gone Fishin' Too,

Nice pics and report. I think I saw you guys, at about 8pm. I pulled up near the center of 3 mile. You guys did better than us and we had live bait. Congrats with the son getting the fish in the boat.

You catch some, you lose some but the beer will never say no or try to run away.

That's a happy lookiung yougster there.  Nothing better than fishing with the kids.  And especially if ya catch something.  Sounds like a little persistance paid off for you.  Thanks for the report.

My brother-in-law is in town and I would like to take him out to catch some big red fish.  Can you tell me what section along the 3-mile bridge is a good location to catch them?  Thanks!
