Went out with pops for a few hours.  Stopped by the Mass and netted a few scoops of live bait.  Ran offshore in the 'tooner about 20 miles, flat seas and fair winds.  Dropped anchor and had marks on the ol' Hummingbird sounder about 1/3 to 1/2 way down.  Dropped the live bait and hooked up as many snapper and amberjack that we could muster.  AJs were all small, under 24", but the snapper were over 5lbs, limits for both.  Also had a keeper king and lots of hard fighting bonita were released.  Had a larger king take me under and around the boat and pop's line, but good ol' dad sawed me off as he was gracious at first and gave me some slack line, but then he tighted up when a smaller AJ ripped into his bait, leaving me hanging with 50 ft less line (long line release).   Not a bad day for the 'tooner.

Pontoon Dan?...did Bonita Dan have a kid? or is this a dark sided alter ego....actually come to think about it if Dan had a alter ego it would be more mister rogers like and less Captain morgan as the Original

all kidding aside great snap's and report....20 miles out in a pontoon boat   you got bigger stones then me

Really nice quality snapper. If you have room in your fishbox you ought to bring some of those bonitos home. They are unbelievable bait. Fresh bonito will outfish live cigar minnows any day of the week. Chumming with fresh caught bonito is a trip. If there are any black snapper where you are fishing they will swarm the boat. Enjoyed reading your report!

Your in the Gulf in a pontoon boat?

You must have Brass ones

Not just in the Gulf...he said 20 miles offshore. Just one thunderstorm away from a very long swim!!!!

No bilge to fill up on the pontoon, only waves that wash over the bloody decks to clean the smell of the catch.
