Asked local trailer shop what would have caused this problem last week and I was told probably used too much grease. So rebuilt hub assembly and " pop " lost the same ( side) one again. The other side has had no problem and I know I used much less grease on the recent rebuild . Could the hub its self need replacing ? When I " tapped " the brand new bearing buddy on last week it went on with the normal amount of pain in the ass factor as expected. What would cause it to come off. I probably trailer the boat 20 miles total a weekend . FYI

| check the hub for heat in between stops. I've had a few trailers were the spindle was bent just enough to cause the bearings to heat up. After a few miles the grease cap and all was gone. It was a mess by the time I got it. I hope this is not your problem, let me know if I can help Phillip

Make sure the hub doesn't have a crack in it. I have had a few with cracks and they don't have enough grip on the bearing buddy. If there isn't crack then take a pair of pliers or vise grips and tweak the lip of the bearing buddy out a little in a couple of places. This will put a little more pressure on the hub.

slip fit loctite works very well for your application. Put it on the lip of there bearing buddy.

I think the hub must have had a non visable crack . So I just went out and bought a new hub assembly. Better safe than not. Went ahead and also purchased another rear seal for the old hub and cleaned all the old ( but still good ) bearings and hub , re greased and packed everything . Inside bearing went in and put the new rear seal in and now I have a great and ready to go emergency hub. Ya never know, just might save my ass one day or even better save someone elses on the side of the road.
