Me and Yakflies fished the entire month of November in the bay to participate in the Hobie Anglers Challenge on 321fish.com  The tourny was biggest red and trout combined length.  I took first with 64 inches and yakflies took second out of 65 anglers from all over the country.  It was a really cool tournament that got me out of the offshore thing and really fired up about reds and trout....even though I swore I would never get bay water on my kayak. I personally caught over 100 trout and 20 reds from all over Ft Walton Destin Niceville and Panama city.  We caught some monster reds on light tackle and artificials in shallow water and had a blast...here are just a few pics.  Hot lure for the month was DOA shrimp!  Check out the website...they have a tourny every month and this month is a cash calcutta open for boats and kayaks.

That's great fishing Tex!! Man, you caught some killer reds!

That last photo looks like the West end of the Destin bridge to me. And those other 2 daytime photos along the shoreline may be up near Cessna Landing around the area where all the sailboats are anchored. How close was I?? I fish those 2 spots regularly although I don't care for the long paddle out of Cessna to the end of Hogtown bayou too much, it's probably a cinch with a Hobie mirage though. I have done OK along the south shore of the Hogtown bayou peninsula in those little bays though.

Congratulations on you guys winning a 2 place sweep in the tournament!!

Edit: Now that I think about it, I may have seen you two coming in last Wednesday on East Pass just heading for the Destin bridge around the channel at dusk!?? It was just barely light enough to make out the color of your 'yaks and the fact that you weren't paddling!!! I was checking out the sunset that evening, it was one of the most spectacular sunsets that I have seen on the Island in years!!!!!

Congrats guys! Those are some nice reds. I hope to fish some more tourneys this year but only time will tell. I may have missed it in a previous post but what do you win in that tournament?

You can see the prize list at 321fish.com....the grand prize was a drawing for a hobie revo. That was most likely us around the pass....way off on the cesna landing! The site is definetly worth checking out for any kayaker!

I'm pretty sure it was us that you saw. Were you in a boat or kayak?
The daytime location was wrong but you were right about it being a long paddle to where we were though.
I won a Hobie inflatable life-vest ($190 retail...make me an offer if anyone wants to buy it) and Texas won that plus a few more things.
6 of the top 10 places were held by people in this area (Mobile-Destin)

Great job. I agree, some killer fish.

Well me and Yakflies never recieved our 189.00 pfd due to back order....Hobie contacted us and let us pick out anything in there catalog of equal or lesser value.  I ended up getting the Hobie performance package which is the turbo st peddle fins and the sailing rudder...they also threw in a ram rod holder.  I really didnt want the pfd anyways because I like the 6.00 one in the bottom of my kayak...I am so happy to get those prizes instead!  Very cool of them...Thanks Hobie!
