Never doubt a 6 oz diamond jig, or a white/glow 6 or 8 oz leadhead jig!!

| For me its Williamson Speed jigs of all sizes and colors work great at a very low cost...Purple and Pink glow in the dark is my favorite to date.. Good luck!!! I just started jigging in 07' and can't get enough...Those jigs catch just about anything that swims in the GOM.. Jimmy

 The Williamson speed jigs are the only ones I use. I believe 5oz works the best. A big 6oz white bucktail jig is another great one to use too.

Havent really bottom bumped much with jigs offshore, but I personally prefer a 6oz white bucktail (you can buy them at wal-mart for $5) over vertical jigs or you can just make your own for $3-$4. I catch bigger fish with them than vertical jigs and their half the price which definately comes in handy when fishing on wrecks or structure.

| I have tried lots - favorites are the williamson benthos 5 oz for for scamp, snapper. the 7 oz and up for AJs got some nice ones on the 14 oz benthos for deep water - high current conditions - the williamson abyss - the 7 oz with that weight-low pot belly sinks damn fast. popped some nice fish in over 300 ft with these babies If the fish are hanging near the bottom I still yo-yo a 6 or 8 oz bead diamond jig, with a replacement Owner 4X treble on a heavy split ring up and down in the strick zone

| The Braids work great and I think are the least expensive of the bunch of vertical style jigs. If you throw a bucktail, put a strip of bonito belly on it.

| I second the Braid sea gator for bottom fish. I remove the tail hook and put a stinger style hook on the front to elimate tangling. For mid level or pelagics the williamsons, shimanos, etc. seem to work better but for bottom species a sea gator in gold mackeral will do it every time. Second would be a 6-10 oz. white or glow bucktail with a glow grub or bonito strip.
