| There were several previous posts on rust and I need some input on rust on the motor. I have a 1998 Mercury offshore 150hp outboard. There are many parts on the exterior part of the motor that are rusting especially around the base on the under side of the motor(all exterrior). What is the best method to getting the old rust off. What type of paint should I recoat with. I have tried sanding and painting in the past and seem to be losing the battle. Thanks for any ideas and imput.

reely blessed, I've had the best luck w/ products like ospho (sp), or phosphoric Prep & Etch. Clean as much of the rust off and then when you paint these products on it will chem change and seal the rusty areas. Let dry, then prime and paint. I'm sure others that do alot of that kind of work will chime in. Good Luck.
