I'm in the market for a new cold water wetsuit, gloves, and booties as my custom made Fathom farmer john wetsuit of 17 years has mysteriously shrunk to the point that I can't get into it.

What is your favorite winter wetsuit setup and mil thickness for the Destin-Pensacola area ? (example: one piece jumpsuit, 2 piece farmer john, one piece jumpsuit with hood, vest with hood under lighter one piece summer suit, ect.) List manufacturer/model/mil thickness.

Also what's your favorite winter glove and bootie. (manufacturer, model and thickness.)

Has anyone tried the Pinnacle Merino lined wetsuits ? If so what's you opinion.

Thanks for your time and info !!

7mm Bare farmer john two piece suit with a seperate hooded vest (Not a plain Hood) Booties of any kind. Dont need gloves 99% of the time here in Pensacola. Don't waste money on dry suit. Make sure suit fits tight. I dive this setup year round and make three to four dives a trip in winter. I also take thermoses full of hot water to pour down suit after first dive.

Hey Capt...I got a 7mm, and used it last winter, and at the springs (wich was a lil overkill but I sure was warm)

I went divin today in the bay, and the waer temp was 51.3 degrees, and I have a Neo Spert 3 mm farmer john from MBT that I got at a hell of a good price, and it kept my body warm....lil chilly, but managable. I have Tilos 5mm booties wit a rela thick tenashoe style sole that I use year round, and I love em cuz I never get a cramp in my leg, and my feet were allright today. Kow gloves, I HAD a pair of akonas 5mm gloves, and ended up losin one, and only have the right one, and I wore that today (I been wearin my thin Riffe kevlar gloves, also from MBT that I got for an unbelievable price), and on the left hand had a Calcutta neoprene glove from GBBT, and after 2 short dives, I had to quit, cuz my left hand felt like a lobster claw with the way it was cramped up. Had I had both my 5mm gloves, I woulda took 2 more short dives, and got more oysters.

In the Gulf last monday, the 3mm farmer john was just fine.

Thats what I have been using, and I hope it helps a lil.

Shoot....speakin of, I forgot, my friend Brandon who went out with us today brought over a wetsuit (I have had a few beers since he showed up and now....and been at DKdivers and Rocklobsters shuckin oysters),and asked me to sell it for him. He bought a ued XL 5mm farmer john, which the pants fit, but he was too barrel chested to get in the top. $80, and it is in great shape! 5mm farmer john would run at least $200. and thats a whole lotta thermal protection in the torso.

If yer intrested in tryi it on, I live in Gulf Breeze

I dive a 6.5mm farmer john.  Water temp be damned, but that is because it is my only wetsuit so if I need one that is what I go with, however I see a lighter suit in my future.  As far as gloves, booties, and hood...go with what suits you best and is the most comfortable.  No sense in diving if you are gonna be all jacked up and uncomfortable.  Good luck.
