I was washing the patio when the pressure washer stopped working suddenly. Turned around to find it laying on the bottom of the pool.  I drug it out and tried to start it back up. It is gas powered and the pull starter won't budge the engine. Is is ruined since it was running when it went in, or what do I need to do from here to get it working again?

| I'm NO expert, but my guess is you've got water in the cylinder... so the piston cannot move. Pull the spark plug, empty the water, empty the gas tank, change the oil. Pull the cord with the plug out Keep pulling for 10 minutes, replace the spark plug, add some gas and try to start it up. These motors are pretty simple and as long as you don't let the water sit in the cylinder you should be ok. Jim

drain the oil and gas take the thing apart,as much as you can,then let it dry out completly,try to lube up any moving parts "WD-40" to make sure your parts dont rust up,then add new gas and oil and maby just maby you might get lucky.If that dont work home depot has them for 350 bones.Good luck.

as long as you dont let the water stay in it and change the oil and gas you have a good chance of everything being ok.

| Get to it RIGHT NOW. As little as a few hours will destroy the engine. You can always go buy a new engine, but..... why? As noted take the plug out, drain the oil and gas (including the float bowl on the carb), spray a bunch of WD40 down the plug hole, pull it through a bunch of times, spray a goodly amount of WD40 in there again, put new gas and oil in it and GET IT RUNNING RIGHT NOW. Then drain the oil and change it AGAIN. Repeat the oil change 2-3 times; you have to get ALL the water out of there or it will do severe damage to the engine. Seriously - you need to take care of this TONIGHT. Typically within a few hours if after it comes out of the water if you don't - its toast.

ok this is what you do your gonna want to take the plugs out drain cylinders pull starter spray alot of WD-40 in there pull starter change oil gas

While everyone has mentioned a bunch of things they have not mentioned one major thing that "May" have happened.
1st is to pull the sparkplug and rotate the motor so piston pushs the fluid out of the cylinder. Drain the crankcase to get the oil & water out of it.
Now if the motor will still not rotate you have hyd. a connecting rod. IE the motor was running at high speed. When it hit the water it sucked water into the cyl and "Tried" to compress it. Notice I said "Tried"? It will not compress and thus bends the connecting rod and locks the motor up.

| Thanks guys, I took it all apart, coated everything with WD-40, pulled the cord a few dozen times and let it dry out. The pull cord rotated the engine once all of the water was out, so it looks like I've got a chance for it to be OK. I'll try to fire it up later on today and see how it goes. Thanks again for the help.
