| Will be coming down the first week in April to try my luck fishing. After fishing off the pier for several years i finally picked up a used 23' proline c/c to fish in the gulf. I will probaly stay within several miles of land until my courage gets up. The question I have is about the waves in the pass. Does it usually get pretty rough in it even if its semi calm out in the gulf? I have had a boat before but was not sure how to tackle the larger waves in this boat. Do you drive straight into them or on a slight angle? Anyhelp??

this might sound weird but just go slow and you will figure out how fast or slow you can go but typically go into the waves.

| There are a lot more qualified people than myself on this forum that can give you advice, but I'm good at adding my 2 cents worth. We've got plenty of water to fish out of, the 23' you have is plenty of boat for most occasions and locations. The biggest thing is build your own confidence in you and your boat. The pass can get tricky, tidal changes, wind and boat traffic can kick it up. Take your time and work your way into it, watch other boats. If the pass or offshore proves not to be your thing, we have plenty of inshore locations. Bridges, pilings and even the flats should be productive that time of year. Keep a tight line.

| Look, dont be scared. Hopefully you have a Gps. as soon as you get right out of the pass press mob. Man over board. Then you need to save that spot as home so it will be there for you to get back in. Our pass isnt bad at all, just alot of boats sometimes. ONce you get outa the bay pass and into the gulf you are good to go. WIDE OPEN AREA. The only thing that i know about sticking out of the water is the Massachauttes. Its south,southwest. So as long as you are going southeast you should be good. Hope this helps. You have to go to catch fish...

the tendency to stay too close is not a good thing ..... shallow water jacks the swell up into a wave that breaks ... and some times they sneak up on you . so stay off the sandbars along the beach and in the darker deeper water when there is a little swell .... the shoal on the west side of the pass is shallow and the waves break a good ways out ... you can see this in action there as the swell comes from the deep (40 plus) water in the channel up on the shoal and jacks up and breaks .

I fish out of a 17' CC when I'm down there, and have found going out the east side to be a little better. You'll just have to watch your bottom machine as it gets skinny in places. Other then having to dodge a few big boats, I have never had any problems. Good Luck!
