Just gotta Vent….

I have been in probably 30 places of businesses over the past 30 days or so.  Just looking around, you know, just stopping and looking around.

These places of businesses were everything from car dealerships (used) to furniture, services, staffing, you name it, and I have probably been in it.

FEW business (people working there) had enough energy to either speak to me and they didn’t even seen to care that I was there.   Except the car dealerships, they were all over me!  The ones that did even acknowledge me, it was a true “1/2 A$$ed attempt.

One business, there was a young lady talking on the phone, I could tell it was a personal call since they were talking about her boyfriend.  20 minutes later after she was “glaring” at me, I decided to leave.  I seriously wanted to ask about something in their store.  AND I was the only one in the freaking place (besides the employee)….  She never did get off the phone.

Another, I (this is true) walked in and the door alarm sounded, I ACTUALLY WOKE THE PERSON UP that was lying on the floor behind the counter!!!!!  NO KIDDING!

In a couple stores, I even asked for someone in charge, they all said the manager is not in today.   Okay, I said, can someone help me with something?  I got the “deer in the headlights” look.  I got frustrated and left.

What’s the point of this useless thread?  I have no idea, but what ever happened to make all these folks so lethargic and gave them the “I don’t give a crap attitude”

Most were not chain stores; you know the locally owned and operated shops.

I wonder why there aren’t many left anymore.  How can you operate a business and NOT have a decision maker available or any motivated people working for you?  Talk about setting yourself up for failure……

Okay,

I feel better now. Thanks,

Jim

It's true. Too many kids today, not all, just want a paycheck for free. My neighbors kid is a prime example. Dropped out of school, just turned 18 in Nov. and has already blown $5k in a savings account that he couldn't touch until 18. Refuses to do anything for minimum wage. He did have a couple of decent jobs, but just quit because his freinds wanted to party when he was working. Now he just sits on his 300 lb fat ars.

Incompetance is running rampant.

I experienced something last night that I'd heard jokes about, but never encountered first-hand.

I stopped to pick up some dinner on the way home from class last night. The bill was $19.11. I gave the guy $20.11. That just ruined his night! He froze like a deer in the headlights. Looked at the cash drawer, looked at me, looked at the cash drawer, looked at me... he had NO idea what to do.

Then he says, "Um, you kinda threw me off there..."

Trying not to laugh, I just told him to give me a dollar back.

I have noticed this around here to, even at the hospitals. My Wife went the Emergency room over at S.H. and was the most unprofesional thing I have ever seen. This all started from the time we walked in, but when the 2nd nurse came in to draw blood, and in the middle answers her cell phone (personal call) leaving everything hang from my wifes arm. I even made a comment to no avail, its allowed now. Notice I said second nurse, well the first one got in an argument with the Doc, then went home sick.

My Wife has complained to the head person, and all she says is, you got your service, right? So I guess if this women goes to a restraunt, and her food is burned, I guess it would be safe to say, you got your food, right? What a joke this place was!!!!!! I could go all day about the screw ups, like waiting for an hr for the meds to kick in. Doc comes in and finds out no meds have been given because we alerted him, then waiting another hr for the meds to kick in.

Now the freakin mess of bills, we have no idea whats what, and have paid bills that ins. already paid, and these are bills they know have been paid. Ins is now investigating, we have stopped all payments with threats to be turned into collections, and to top it off, Wife never got her results, still have no idea what was wrong. Our ins pays 100% of E.R visit, but we have bills for everything, and bet if I look hard enough, might even find the cell phone charge during the blood draw. A joke and a scam!!!!

You wouldn't believe the countless times that I've walked out of a business because of some of those reasons. I've stood at the register getting ready to pay when the phone would ring, only to be a acquittance or someone calling about a item and wanting a price. If they so much as say anything other then the likes of "please hold on" I'm out of there ( sometimes I'll actually tell them in a voice that others hear..."make them hold on...I was before them) . I worked for a auto jobber (family owned) in High School that, if he didn't teach me anything else, was...If a customer is in the building...he most likely has money in his pocket..and take care of him as fast and courteous as you can. Get his money as that is how we get paid. When I used to go to Wal-Mart, I've left buggies of groceries in a line (line too long) and walked out.

FeliX....I do that all the time...one exception...I'll ask..."did you go to school, did they teach BASIC math" all while laughing and shaking my head. Kids today (not all) are totally lost without a register that you punch in how much they have in their hand, and God forbid you hand them coin change AFTER they ring it up.

A while back, Wife and I stopped at pizza hut for the lunch buffet. No pizza, we waited, then got a slice since people were waiting. Wen't back, no pizza, waited and waited. Finally here comes some more pizza, but wait, no plates. We and other customers had to put our pizza ina bowl. All the customers were complaining about service, no drinks etc, and the place had maybe 5 tables going, so not busy. We finally just got up and walked out, and didn't even care about paying.

Several months ago I got kicked out of Home Depot.

I pushed the wrong button on the “Self Check Out” machine.  I could not even get one of the three people standing there to check me out.  They said use that one (pointing to the machine.)

I pushed the wrong button and it started to speak in Spanish.  I asked for help (back to the three people (employees) standing there) and one of the ladies started to speak to me in Spanish!!!!!

It went down hill really fast after that.  It’s a story over a beer.   The manager arrived and asked me to leave the store.  I even attempted to describe “If I am talking to your employees in “ENGLISH” why are they talking to me in “SPANISH”

Sometimes I think I just can’t take it anymore…..

I went in a home depot not too long ago for a few things and when I got ready to check out, there must have been 15 people in line for the only checkout with a cashier. There was a self checkout line available but I refuse to use them and I guess there's alot of people who feel the same way. Nobody was using it. When I finally got to the lady, I asked her to page the manager for me. I patiently waited for him for about 10 minutes and "explained" to him just what I thought about the self checkout lines and asked him to look at how many people were using it compared with the long line at the only cashier. I told him the only thing they were good for was to beat people out of a job and the he should hire a few people before he ran all his customers off! All I got was the "deer in the headlights look" from him too. I hate those things.

As far as "emergency" rooms, don't even get me started! You have to be squirting blood 3 feet in the air to get people moving at all in most of them!

I was in Sears the other day looking for something they had advertised in sale. Couldn't find it and it turned out they were out of them. Imagine that.

All the time I was walking up and down the aisles with a confused look on my face there were three clerks sitting on the lawnmowers talking. But I guess they got bored with that so they started posing and taking pictures of each other.  Never did get acknowledged by any of them. By the way, the place was empty. I don't see Sears being around much longer.

I had a doctor's appt. the other day at a doctor I had never been to before. I had been sitting there for 30 minutes past my appointment time when the nurse came out and called my name.

I started walking back when the woman at the front counter who hadn't said jack to me since I sat down handed me a clipboard full of papers and said she needed me to fill them out. Hmmmm. Seems like a better time to do that woulda been the 30 minutes that I have been sitting there reading Readers Digest.

Work ethic, manners, common courtesy and common sense are not taught at SCHOOL! Parents are failing. We have to step up, teach through example and get hold of our kids!

Ron et al, in defense of some of these kids on the cash registers, they are trained to enter exactly what is handed to them and give back exactly what the machine says. The math may or may not be the problem in some cases. It is frustrating.

I am running out of businesses I can go into due to bad service experiences. Quick story;

Years ago my mother was wanting a new car. She went to a dealership in Knoxville and walked around in the show room for twenty or thirty minutes looking at a floor model that she wanted. A couple of guys were smoking and joking and all but ignored her. They had the exact car she wanted on the showroom floor. She probably would have paid sticker for it too. Not one soul offered to help her.

She left, went back to Clinton and wrote a check for the same model car at a local dealership. She then drove back to Knoxville about 16 miles and went back to the dealership she had left earlier. She asked to speak to the manager. He bee bopped over and she said " I was in here this morning looking at that car over there." I waited around for twenty minutes and that fellow was doing this and that fellow was doing that. No one offered to help me. " You see that car out there?" I just went to Clinton and wrote a check for it! I wanted this car though. It has more stuff and is the color I wanted even though it cost a few thousand more. I would have written you a check for this one too.Your folks weren't interested in selling me that or any car so I bought it somewhere else. With that she drove off. GOD how I miss my Mother.

-------------------------------------

Still in Knoxville,TN but working on it.

Thanks for all the info. Lets go fishing! Can't wait to meet more of you folks.             Hal, you owe me a beer!

I was at a restaraunt one time with my brother and a friend.  We all ordered something and when they brought out the check it was all on one ticket.  I apologized to the waitress and asked if it could be split up.  I kid you not she looked at me and said "can't you figure it out".  I kept my cool and told her that two of us were paying with cards and one with cash.  She split it out and the only tip she got was the 2 penny left by my friend.  I wrote on the ticket "I would have left you a tip, but I couldn't figure it out"

Geez...don't get me started on this. I can't tell you how many times I've walked out of store in disbelief thinking, "Gee, they sure do make it hard for me to give them my money."

I mean, I've walked in a place (Best Buy for example) and knew exactly what I wanted, but had to have someone get it b/c it was behind the counter or something. There I am, with $400 bucks in my hand ready to spend, and no one will come help me.

It blows my freaking mind.

Was in McDonalds awhile back and was given back the wrong change. Now someone else might have put the excess in his pocket, but I always try and play fair. I point out to the young man that he had given me to much change. He began to argue with me that that's what the register said I was suppose to get back. I counted out the change trying to show him it was to much. Finally ask for the manager who thanked me for noticing the error. I told him when I worked for McDonald in the late 70's we were required to count change back to the customer.

Just a couple of weeks ago I was in IHOP with my family and almost got up and walked out. They only had about 4 or 5 tables with customers and nine waitresses working. After being seated we waited 10 minutes to place our drink orders, another 15 to place our food order, add to that another 25 minutes to get our food and well it went down hill. Now here is the clincher. While we were eating a man and his wife sat down behind us and immediately our waitress was there taking their order and with in 15 minutes they had their drinks and food. Listening to the waitress they were friends of hers. Needless to say she did not get a tip from me that night.

no offense intended but alot of places do not split checks unless you tell them at the start of the order, its just the computer program itself.tell your server when you order that there will be seperate checks and it should not be a problem.by the way,i will tip my cart over in a bigbox store and walk out if i see the manager walking around doing nothing while 2 clerks are dealing with too many people and then send an email to customer service.IF YOU ARE GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT CERTAIN BUSINESSES THAN YOU SHOULD NAME THEM,IF YOU DO NOT THAN THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE,by the way,i work a seville, that crap does not fly there.

A lot of places still won't split the ticket up b/c of the tip being automatically added in for parties of 6 or more.  I can't tell you how many times I've left double tip because of trying to figure out how much of the check is my portion and then leaving the tip on the table.  Was in a restaraunt in BHam two weekends ago (The Cajun Steamer) with 5 or 6 other couples and requested that Marie's and My bill be seperated.  The waitress did seperate our bill after she brought one out with every ones together and then had to go back and retotal all of it,  no joke,  it took probably close to 45 minutes to get the new bills.  Next time,  if there is a next time,  we will all sit at seperate tables.

Jim, the slow housing market is getting to you!! Only joking. It is amazing how lazy people are, and it doesn't only happen in retail. I'm sure you've had dealings with the local county or city agencies. A lot of them act as if they are doing you a favor by doing their job. And don't even get me started on "self check" lines. Won't use them.

If you get over to Milton, make sure you call before you pop in, that way I'll be awake!
