| On saturday the 15th of March sharkbait410 my 11 year old son Monty and I went to the beach for some afternoon pomp action, no action just 1 cat. My son has been taking one of my old reels out in the yard to practice his casting and he is getting pretty good, I cut the hook off a jig with a grub worm on it so as not to snag, anyway we get to the beach and get 2 lines in the water and as i was about to cast out my other line my son said let me so I said OK just get away from me, go down the beach, he went about 20 feet, not far enough as I was about to learn. Now a pomp rig is a little heaver than a grub jig as you know so he draws back and the next thing I see is a pyramid sinker and 2 hook filled shrimp coming straight for my face "something ugly" that trust me you do not ever want to see. Thank God he did not put much on it cause I turned and caught it in the side of the head, thank God again no hooks found meat. So the rest of the day he had to go way down the beach to cast and did pretty good. Oh yea the "something ugly" is my face and a pomp rig flying toward it.

Glad to hear you're ok and that your son is learning...get some of that Police crimetape and mark off his fishing area...as a precaution

| If that sinker came back and hit you in your junk, and you also had it on film, you could have sent it in to America's Funniest Home Videos. You'd be a winner. Grouper, I like that Avatar. I've got a Chocolate Lab named Bender.

| roflma took my son out the other day and he's trying to learn to cast (6 yr old). Had a little top water lure on. Well, he was sitting on the bench in front of me (jon boat) and instisted on keeping the rod between me and him. I told him and told him and told him to move the rod to the other side. I'm going to get stuck before its over with. My only saving grace is he would reel the lure all the way to the top before trying to cast so it wasn't slinging around. I haven't though of cutting the hook of so he could practice in the yard.

It's an experience you both will never forget. You'll get plenty of laughs over it as he matures. Good for him for speaking up and trying and then sticking with it after the mishap. Father son time is what's important.
